Daredevil, one of the most realistic heroes in the Marvel universe, has returned to the screen. With the third season, we witness what happened after The Defenders finale. Matt Murdock once again shows how human of a hero he is.
Before we start the review, let us warn you that there is a spoiler in this article about Daredevil season 3 episode 1.
Those who already watched it know, but we can say that the finale of The Defenders was particularly challenging for Matt Murdock. The return of Elektra, whom he thought was dead, that final fight, and the collapse of the entire building fundamentally shook his life. Although surviving such a disaster may sound very cliché, it is actually a great miracle. However, Matt doesn’t feel that way. On the contrary, we witness his previously intense Catholic faith being shaken. Matt Murdock has been the most devout character we have seen so far. His frequent visits to the church, regular confessions, and the fact that his religious beliefs were the most important factor in his transformation into Daredevil have always been in the foreground. His faith and quest for justice have always been at the heart of being a lawyer during the day and Daredevil at night. However, what he has experienced causes him to question everything he believed and felt. This also causes the foundation of his own personality to be shaken.
In fact, it is not a new story to have faith shaken after accidents. On the contrary, when people have a big accident and lose some of their abilities, their faith is deeply shaken. They have a hard time finding out who they are and what they will do from now on. However, the situation is different for Daredevil. He had already experienced this process when he was blinded as a child. We know that he turned to religion after losing his father as well. However, his return from the dead and partial loss of his power leads him to a completely different point. He becomes questioning everything he believed and trusted in life. His physical problems and efforts to rediscover himself are the fundamental story of the first episode. Moreover, even though it is not a new topic, watching this through the eyes of Matt Murdock does not bore us. On the contrary, his ability to remain so human despite his extraordinary powers makes us admire him.
On the other hand, we know that Wilson Fisk will return. Fisk, who has been in prison for a long time, refuses to cooperate with the FBI. However, he changes his mind when he learns that his loved one is also in danger. We also witness this process. Even if you didn’t watch the trailers, you feel from the first episode that Wilson Fisk is fed up with everything and has come back for revenge.
For me, after the dull second season, the third season feels like a bomb. Especially the first episode of the third season carries the same atmosphere as the much-liked first season. What we are really curious about is whether they were able to spread this feeling throughout the entire season.
