How to Make Sourdough Starter?

  2. Add one cup of flour and one cup of water to the jar. Mix well and obtain a homogeneous mixture.
  3. Cover the jar with a cloth or cheesecloth and let it sit at room temperature for a few days. (At least 2-3 days, but it is recommended to wait for a week for better results.)
  4. Stir the mixture every day and open the jar for a few minutes to allow natural yeast and bacteria to have access to oxygen.
  5. The mixture in the jar should rise and have a sour smell. This is a sign that sourdough starter has formed. Once the sourdough starter has formed, you need to feed the mixture daily until it is ready to use.
  6. Before using the sourdough starter, stir the mixture in the jar and use the amount you need. Add one cup of water and one cup of flour to feed the remaining mixture. Repeat this process before each use.

The sourdough starter can continue to be fed as long as it is being used. When there is enough sourdough starter, you do not need to add one cup of water and one cup of flour each time to make sourdough starter. In this case, it is enough to stir the mixture in the jar before using the sourdough starter.
